Being “Rooted in Service” is about more than just the service others see us do. It’s about who we are at our foundation. Our roots in service are strong, and they run deep.

The board met earlier this week, and I am pleased to announce that the Lions Clubs International Board of Directors recommends Past International Director Vijay Kumar Raju from Multiple District 316 (India) as international third vice president for election at the 2027 Lions International Convention in Washington D.C., USA.

The Espanola "Back to School" event in June brought several cheerful volunteers together. Santa Fe Capital City Líons had participated for several years with the Espanola Club , but this year, additional screening services and educational material were provided by the New Mexico Lions Diabetes Awareness Program in the Blue Cross Blue Shield Van with help from Santa Fe Prep Leo Sameera! Free glasses applications and instructions with frame selections were also available

A carton of 24 student dictionaries from The Dictionary Project Inc. were delivered to Lion Caroline Hess on July 6, 2026, as requested for use by the Four Corners Regional Training Institute's 70 community members. Led by City of Albuquerque's Albuquerque Volunteers and sponsored by a world-wide Baha'i initiative, the Institute's program includes learning cycles, literacy development, facilitated conversations, community engagement and active reflection with youths 15 years

New officers were installed July 1 at the Sandia Mountain Lions Club picnic meeting held at the mountain home of Lions Wes and Rena Harris. Installing officer was 2ndVDG K.R. Scott. Pictured are incoming Vice President Rena Harris, President Sammie Hutchison, Treasurer Caroline Hess, Secretary Bob Jones, Tail TwisterSteve-O Marusich, and PP Membership Chair Sarah Berry. 2ndVDG Scott also inducted new member Heather Pink who was sponsored by Lion Rena.

The Artesia Downtown Lions Club proudly launched a new community service project this summer with the debut of a beautiful American flag display along Main Street in Artesia. After weeks of planning and preparation, the project officially rolled out in time for the community's Fourth of July celebration. Working in partnership with the City of Artesia, Lions installed 138 American flags accompanied by smaller Artesia Downtown Lions Club flags on 10-foot poles.

Jaylene L. Roberts, 70, died in Hobbs, NM on June 15, 2026. She grew up in Carlsbad, NM and graduated from Carlsbad High School. She earned her teaching degree from New Mexico State University. Upon graduation from New Mexico State, she was hired by Hobbs Independent Schools as a kindergarten teacher at Taylor Elementary where she was employed for two years. She moved to College Lane Elementary as kindergarten teacher and retired after 30 years of teaching.

The ABQ NE Lions are in for the challenge, and we will be supporting Backpacks for the Blind. Everyone donates supplies for school children, but people often forget that blind and low-vision kids need supplies too. Our backpacks provide Braille items and vision-impaired supplies for students that will last through their sch

The Clovis Evening Lions enjoys helping the Draggin' Main Event by making sure the Participants are the only vehicles that enter the event on Main Street. It may be work keeping everything in order, but it's a lot of fun working with fellow Lions. ROAR!!! This is a huge event for Clovis New Mexico. Draggin' Main is a week long event that lets people bring their vehicles to show them off and meet people that have come from other cities and states.

Service is the foundation of our organization. It’s at the very root of what we do and who we are as Lions. Meaningful service fuels growth, increases our impact and strengthens our communities and our world. It’s why people join us — and why they stay. That’s why my presidential theme this year is “Rooted in Service.” I encourage all of us to reconnect with our Lion roots and focus on what matters most. Get creative with your service. Have fun.

Lion Sam Pirelli and Lion Bill McCommack of the Ruidoso Evening Lions have been doing some travel voluntourism. They attended the 63rd annual High Rolls/Mountain Park - Summer Cherry Festival. They have also attended several of the Alamogordo Evening Lions Gun shows to give them a helping hand as well.

The Ruidoso Evening Lions Club held its Memorial Day and Independence Day Gun Shows. We host a Kids' Scavenger Hunt at each gun show. When children find all of the hidden Lions and have their card stamped by each participating vendor, they are entered for a chance to win a Daisy BB gun and BBs. Tuesday, June 9, we had a celebration! In honor of Lions International's 109th birthday, we celebrated the legacy of Lion Roy Dow of Carrizozo, New Mexico. Lion Roy was a dedicated Lion and business owner in Carrizozo for many years. His niece, Connie, presented us with Roy's Lions vest. As this Lion year comes to a close, we have the opportunity to reflect on all we have accomplished together. I am grateful for my time as chairperson of our foundation and proud of the impact we have made. Your dedication and generosity have expanded our service, reached more people in need and left a lasting mark in communities around the world. I look forward to celebrating our success at the 108th Lions International Convention in Hong Kong and reflecting on the difference

The club is ready to do more for 2026-2027!

The Farmington Evening Lions Club worked with the Farmington Public Library Reading Foundation to put on their third annual car show to benefit our community. It was a blast!! We had 100 cars along with motorcycles, vendors with everything from food to everything “car,” including insurance agents, customizing supplies, and the most artistic awards that are designed from car parts.

We have had a very busy year! Our club numbers increased from 10, to 15 members. PCC Wesley W. Brown, Jr. visited our club on June 20th and inducted 7 new Members.

Farmington Evening Lions Club held a raffle during the Car Show. A Suitcase Scooter was raffled off. We had the pleasure off seeing our Lions ride it around the Car Show and it really drew a lot of attention.
