Our 3rd Annual Statewide Lions FOOD DRIVE was a success!!! Participating clubs raised nearly $5000 to help their local food pantries and charitable organizations and we collected...drum roll... 10,576.26 pounds of food, a new record for food donations!!! Great work D40 Lions! We are making a difference in fighting hunger in our very hungry state. ROAR!

The Eye-screening team of Los Leones de Mesilla have completed their Elementary children screenings!! We were blessed to have Las Cruces High School students from the HOSA program and students from the Burrell Health Sciences Attend and participate in this event. They grasped quickly to the procedures and were soon taking over the camera and completing all documentation! The Edgewood Lions Club participated in the annual Lions Food Drive on September 12th. Volunteers from Scouts Troop 640 and the East Mountain Food Pantry joined with our club to collect 972 pounds of food and $567 in cash donations. Even in this time of high prices, Edgewoodians came out in force. A special surprise was when the Edgewood DeMolay chapter came by and dropped off 3 shopping carts full of food. ROAR!

Albuquerque Lions hosted a food drive for Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico on September 12, 2026, at the Walmart Neighborhood Market located at Juan Tabo & Montgomery in Albuquerque, NM. Fifteen Lion Club members reported at 8:30 am in the parking lot at Walmart to prepare for the food drive. We completed the food drive at 2 pm with the delivery of the donations to the Roadrunner Food Bank: Total pounds of food: 1,501 (approximately 1,274 meals) & monetary donations: $468.2

The Carlsbad Community Lions Club participated in the state annual food drive for its second year in a row. Close to 160 pounds of food was collected by the club and donated to our local packs for hunger organization, which provides weekend meals for school children in need every week! 2026 Diabetes Awareness Health Fair

Sunrise Lions, Las Cruces, are sponsoring two upcoming events. On September 12 our third annual Pickleball Tournament. We already have 40 players signed up. On October 24 we are hosting a Cornhole Tournament at the Icebox on West Picacho from 11:30 to 4 pm. We have challenged all the Lions Clubs in Las Cruces for a "tournament in a tournament " challenge. Will be open to the public and have cash prizes for winners. You can register at the event. The Lions International Peace Poster Contest has given middle school students ages 11-13 the opportunity to share what peace means to them through art, but also to express how peace would affect their lives, their families, friends and the world! These thoughts were shared by students in a Santa Fe southside lower income area.

You just need one member and one middle school teacher who might want to get their 11, 12 or 13 year old students to think about peace for themselves and the world and get involved in a project that pulls together creativity and kindness together. But you need to give the teachers time to incorporate this year’s theme “HARMONY IN HUMANITY” into their lesson plans for the coming school year.

The Ruidoso Evening Lions Club held its Memorial Day and Independence Day Gun Shows. We host a Kids' Scavenger Hunt at each gun show. When children find all of the hidden Lions and have their card stamped by each participating vendor, they are entered for a chance to win a Daisy BB gun and BBs. The Farmington Evening Lions Club worked with the Farmington Public Library Reading Foundation to put on their third annual car show to benefit our community. It was a blast!! We had 100 cars along with motorcycles, vendors with everything from food to everything “car,” including insurance agents, customizing supplies, and the most artistic awards that are designed from car parts.

Taos Lions will hold its annual Drive for Sight Golf Tournament August 1, 2026 at Taos Country Club Golf Course.

The Albuquerque Breakfast Lions Club was among 19 volunteers participating in the annual Burque Bee fundraiser for Ethos Literacy. Ethos Literacy is a nonprofit reading and educational center that empowers adults with literacy, language, and math skills. The Burque Bee-Team Spelling Bee was held on June 5, 2026, at the Canteen Brewhouse in Albuquerque. We were honored to have KOAT News Anchor Shelly Ribando as the host at the event.

On May 13, 2026, Trudi Lynn, VIST Coordinator at the New Mexico VA Hospital, invited Lions members to serve the Visual Impaired Veterans at their annual spring BBQ. Lions’ members from Albuquerque Breakfast and Edgewood Clubs reported from 10 am to 2 pm, ready to work.

The May issue of 'Albuquerque The Magazine' featured "Incredible Kids," a column about our 2025-26 Peace Poster Merit Award winner Haven Cook, along with a photo of her holding the poster. Also in May, a picture of the poster and an explanation of it was posted in the East Mountain Library, giving our Lions Club project even more publicity.
