PEACE POSTER? WHY BOTHER?

(Some reasons from participants who created posters and wrote about their thoughts.)

The Lions International Peace Poster Contest has given middle school students ages 11-13 the opportunity to share what peace means to them through art, but also to  express how peace would affect their lives, their families, friends and the world!  These thoughts were shared by students in a Santa Fe southside lower income area.

13 year old Christian wrote:

              Children should learn what peace is because they should learn now to love others, be friends with others.  If they don’t have friends, go up to the and tell then you want to be friends.  Don’t be mean to others -like people you barely met  Don’t go and start a fight because you don’t like that person.  If you hate someone don’t kill them just because you don’t like them.

12 year old Elaine wrote:

              It is important that kids know peace, so the kids don’t become kids that hit their mom, dad, sister, brothers.  Kids need to know peace to be a better person. And so the kids could know that peace is a better thing than violence.

11 year old Briana wrote:

              It is important that children know peace because if not they might do drugs or fights that will get them in a bad place.  If children know peace they could go to somewhere great, like college. So, it Is very important.  Also, it doesn’t matter where you are from and how you look.  We are all people and friends, so let’s hold hands and show people that we know peace.  And so the kids could know that peace is a better thing than violence.
