Being “Rooted in Service” is about more than just the service others see us do. It’s about who we are at our foundation. Our roots in service are strong, and they run deep.

The Lions International Peace Poster Contest has given middle school students ages 11-13 the opportunity to share what peace means to them through art, but also to express how peace would affect their lives, their families, friends and the world! These thoughts were shared by students in a Santa Fe southside lower income area.

You just need one member and one middle school teacher who might want to get their 11, 12 or 13 year old students to think about peace for themselves and the world and get involved in a project that pulls together creativity and kindness together. But you need to give the teachers time to incorporate this year’s theme “HARMONY IN HUMANITY” into their lesson plans for the coming school year.

Service is the foundation of our organization. It’s at the very root of what we do and who we are as Lions. Meaningful service fuels growth, increases our impact and strengthens our communities and our world. It’s why people join us — and why they stay. That’s why my presidential theme this year is “Rooted in Service.” I encourage all of us to reconnect with our Lion roots and focus on what matters most. Get creative with your service. Have fun.

As this Lion year comes to a close, we have the opportunity to reflect on all we have accomplished together. I am grateful for my time as chairperson of our foundation and proud of the impact we have made. Your dedication and generosity have expanded our service, reached more people in need and left a lasting mark in communities around the world. This year, Lions and Leos around the world have made a meaningful difference. Through your leadership and service, compassion and kindness, needs have been met, lives have been touched and communities strengthened. As the Lion year comes to a close, that impact continues. MISSION 1.5 reminds us there is more to do, and by growing our membership, we expand our service and extend our reach into the future.

This Lions year is about to be over and it has been a year of many changes, both in D40 and at International, we are all striving to operate in this new digital world. Yup, be sure we are all struggling with technology, however it is not going away so our best option is to learn as best we can. Trying to avoid it and wish for the older ways is not helping anybody.

The May issue of 'Albuquerque The Magazine' featured "Incredible Kids," a column about our 2025-26 Peace Poster Merit Award winner Haven Cook, along with a photo of her holding the poster. Also in May, a picture of the poster and an explanation of it was posted in the East Mountain Library, giving our Lions Club project even more publicity. As we prepare to enter the final month of our fiscal year, we have an opportunity to reflect on what we have achieved and commit to finishing strong. Through LCIF, Lions and Leos are creating change that will be felt for generations.

Tell-A-Thon is a global storytelling event where Lions, Leos, families, friends and neighbors come together to hear real stories about why service matters. It’s also an LCIF fundraiser that helps fund even more service in communities around the world.

We kindly request your assistance in strengthening our impact through a club donation to the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) by June 15, 2026. Club donations unify our giving, so LCIF can fund programs that improve health, strengthen communities, and support those in need. Let's make District 40 stand out. What a weekend! Thank you to everyone who joined us in Carlsbad for the 98th Annual NM/AZ Lions State Convention. From the fellowship to the service, it was a resounding success! 🦁 It was a privilege to host such a dedicated group, and it’s fair to say a wonderful time was had by all!
