Being “Rooted in Service” is about more than just the service others see us do. It’s about who we are at our foundation. Our roots in service are strong, and they run deep.

The Lions International Peace Poster Contest has given middle school students ages 11-13 the opportunity to share what peace means to them through art, but also to express how peace would affect their lives, their families, friends and the world! These thoughts were shared by students in a Santa Fe southside lower income area.

The Espanola "Back to School" event in June brought several cheerful volunteers together. Santa Fe Capital City Líons had participated for several years with the Espanola Club , but this year, additional screening services and educational material were provided by the New Mexico Lions Diabetes Awareness Program in the Blue Cross Blue Shield Van with help from Santa Fe Prep Leo Sameera! Free glasses applications and instructions with frame selections were also available

You just need one member and one middle school teacher who might want to get their 11, 12 or 13 year old students to think about peace for themselves and the world and get involved in a project that pulls together creativity and kindness together. But you need to give the teachers time to incorporate this year’s theme “HARMONY IN HUMANITY” into their lesson plans for the coming school year.

The Ruidoso Evening Lions Club held its Memorial Day and Independence Day Gun Shows. We host a Kids' Scavenger Hunt at each gun show. When children find all of the hidden Lions and have their card stamped by each participating vendor, they are entered for a chance to win a Daisy BB gun and BBs. Members of the Farmington Evening Lions Club joined with Lion Shelly Diede of the Children’s Hope Foundation at Farmington’s Riverfest on May 24, 2026. This is the foundation’s annual fundraiser, raffling off a brand-new car. The car was donated by Melloy Honda in Farmington as part of their annual donation to help children with Cancer, and their families, to be able to travel for specialized healthcare needs.

Farmington Evening Lions Club received an email from Presbyterian Children’s Services (PMS) to any party that would be interested in helping them set up the gardening project. PMS had received a grant to start this project. Farmington Evening expressed an interest and has partnered with Presbyterian Children’s Services (PMS) to begin a garden project to teach the children in their program how to plant and raise a garden. The Albuquerque Breakfast Lions Club was among 19 volunteers participating in the annual Burque Bee fundraiser for Ethos Literacy. Ethos Literacy is a nonprofit reading and educational center that empowers adults with literacy, language, and math skills. The Burque Bee-Team Spelling Bee was held on June 5, 2026, at the Canteen Brewhouse in Albuquerque. We were honored to have KOAT News Anchor Shelly Ribando as the host at the event.

Jennifer Halphen (second from the left), President of the Four Corners Stockman’s Association (FCSA) was invited to do a presentation at the Farmington Evening Lions Club meeting to introduce the FCSA and its work to the club. One of the Global Causes for the Lions Clubs is Youth Empowerment bringing the work of FCSA to the forefront.

The May issue of 'Albuquerque The Magazine' featured "Incredible Kids," a column about our 2025-26 Peace Poster Merit Award winner Haven Cook, along with a photo of her holding the poster. Also in May, a picture of the poster and an explanation of it was posted in the East Mountain Library, giving our Lions Club project even more publicity. Clovis Evening Lions are always ready to help our kids. We presented a check to Justin (the Boy Scouts Leader) to help the kids go to camp. It always feels good to know that a child will further their future by the things they will learn along the way.
