The Lions International Peace Poster Contest has given middle school students ages 11-13 the opportunity to share what peace means to them through art, but also to express how peace would affect their lives, their families, friends and the world! These thoughts were shared by students in a Santa Fe southside lower income area.

You just need one member and one middle school teacher who might want to get their 11, 12 or 13 year old students to think about peace for themselves and the world and get involved in a project that pulls together creativity and kindness together. But you need to give the teachers time to incorporate this year’s theme “HARMONY IN HUMANITY” into their lesson plans for the coming school year.

The Ruidoso Evening Lions Club held its Memorial Day and Independence Day Gun Shows. We host a Kids' Scavenger Hunt at each gun show. When children find all of the hidden Lions and have their card stamped by each participating vendor, they are entered for a chance to win a Daisy BB gun and BBs. The Farmington Evening Lions Club worked with the Farmington Public Library Reading Foundation to put on their third annual car show to benefit our community. It was a blast!! We had 100 cars along with motorcycles, vendors with everything from food to everything “car,” including insurance agents, customizing supplies, and the most artistic awards that are designed from car parts.

Farmington Evening Lions Club held a raffle during the Car Show. A Suitcase Scooter was raffled off. We had the pleasure off seeing our Lions ride it around the Car Show and it really drew a lot of attention.

The Albuquerque Breakfast Lions Club was among 19 volunteers participating in the annual Burque Bee fundraiser for Ethos Literacy. Ethos Literacy is a nonprofit reading and educational center that empowers adults with literacy, language, and math skills. The Burque Bee-Team Spelling Bee was held on June 5, 2026, at the Canteen Brewhouse in Albuquerque. We were honored to have KOAT News Anchor Shelly Ribando as the host at the event.

The May issue of 'Albuquerque The Magazine' featured "Incredible Kids," a column about our 2025-26 Peace Poster Merit Award winner Haven Cook, along with a photo of her holding the poster. Also in May, a picture of the poster and an explanation of it was posted in the East Mountain Library, giving our Lions Club project even more publicity. The New Mexico Lions Eye Foundation Officers and Trustees can’t thank Lions enough for their support through the second half of this year. We didn’t sell all of our Raffle tickets but generous Club donations helped to make up the difference. There aren’t sufficient words to express our gratitude to all the Lions who participated.
