The Albuquerque Breakfast Lions Club was among 19 volunteers

participating in the annual Burque Bee fundraiser for Ethos Literacy. Ethos Literacy is a nonprofit reading and educational center that empowers adults with literacy, language, and math skills. The Burque Bee-Team Spelling Bee was held on June 5, 2026, at the Canteen Brewhouse in Albuquerque. We were honored to have KOAT News Anchor Shelly Ribando as the host at the event.

There were nine tables with three spellers at each table.

A few of the spelling bee group names were HIVE MIND, WANNA BEES, and WORD NERDS. The following were a few spelling words: PSORIASIS, ZEPHIR, and ODORIFEROUS. The teams competed for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and a lot of bragging rights.

Albuquerque Breakfast Lions and duties:

Rita Graham – Greeter at the Welcome Table

Sandra Stewart – Timekeeper

Barbara Wright – Judge

Larry Langdon (with volunteer Jan) – Setup/Take Down

Carol Marshall – Welcome Table Setup/Assist Volunteer Manager

Lions Carol Marshall and Larry Langdon are tutors at Ethos Literacy.  It was another great, fun time for Ethos Literacy!
