If you noticed friendly faces in yellow vests outside your local grocery store on Saturday, September 13th, you were seeing Lions Clubs in action. On that day, Lions across New Mexico came together for their 2nd Annual Statewide Lions Food Drive, a service initiative aimed at supporting local food banks and pantries where help is needed most.

Thanks to the generosity of New Mexicans, this year’s Food Drive collected an impressive 8,643 food items and raised $8,127 in cash donations. These contributions will directly support families and individuals who struggle with food insecurity in our communities.

Recognizing the importance of this effort, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham proclaimed September 13th as Lions Food Drive Day across New Mexico. The need is clear: according to Feeding America, 1 in 6 adults and 1 in 4 children in our state do not consistently have enough food to eat.

District 40 Governor Frankie Davis highlighted the importance of this service, saying:

“Our motto is We Serve and we do so in any way we can. New Mexico has a large need for assistance in fighting hunger and one of our international Lions goals is to carry that fight to our local communities.”

New Mexico Lions Clubs are part of Lions International, the largest service organization in the world with more than 1.4 million members in over 200 countries. Whether through food drives, vision screenings, or other acts of service, Lions are committed to living out their mission: We Serve.
