At 10 a.m., August 30, nine Sandia Mountain Lions were among some 50 community members attending the American flag raising on one of two new poles at the Sedillo Hill bridge over I-40, exit 181 between Tijeras and Edgewood. Since the 9/11 tragedy, two flags were flown at the bridge, originally sponsored by the local Entranosa Water Company. Several years ago that project was discontinued and the flags were greatly missed by local residents. Kelly Lang and Don Patterson began trying to replace the poles and flags more than four years ago, greatly hindered by continuing ‘red tape.’  They requested ongoing assistance from Sandia Mountain Lions Club, with informal cooperation from members ever since. While not yet a formal club project, assistance is expected to continue, as even sturdy flags are destroyed by wind in about three months. Members in Club dress who watched an American Legion Color Guard raise the first flag were Lions Steve-O Marusich, Penn Baker, Sharon Thompson,  Alberto Flores, Jani Klatt, Linda Cuenco, Gerry Jones, PDG Bobby Richardon and PCC Bob Jones.
