Artesia Downtown Lions Club Launches New Community Flag Project

The Artesia Downtown Lions Club proudly launched a new community service project this summer with the debut of a beautiful American flag display along Main Street in Artesia. After weeks of planning and preparation, the project officially rolled out in time for the community's Fourth of July celebration.

Working in partnership with the City of Artesia, Lions installed 138 American flags accompanied by smaller Artesia Downtown Lions Club flags on 10-foot poles. The City prepared the route by drilling installation points in the sidewalks, allowing Lions to create a striking patriotic display spanning seven blocks of downtown Main Street. The display welcomed residents and visitors alike while providing a beautiful backdrop for the community's Independence Day celebration.

This project represented a tremendous community effort. Seventeen Artesia Downtown Lions dedicated 126 volunteer hours to planning, preparing, and installing the flags. Members of the Leo Club contributed an additional 5 hours, while 10 community volunteers generously gave 93 hours of their time. Together, volunteers invested a total of 224 hours to bring this vision to life.

The community response was overwhelmingly positive, with the flags adding to the festive atmosphere and receiving enthusiastic support from residents and visitors alike. The project represented an investment of nearly $10,000 in flags, poles, and related supplies.

While the Fourth of July marked the project's inaugural display, this is only the beginning. The Artesia Downtown Lions Club has committed to making the downtown flag display a long-term community service project, with Lions and volunteers gathering throughout the year to proudly display the flags for six major patriotic holidays annually, honoring our nation while enhancing the beauty of downtown Artesia.
