Sandia Mountain Lions Club News

The September 2 meeting of the Sandia Mountain Lions Club was held at Los Vecinos Community Center, presided over by President Sammie Hutchison. Former realtor and Cedar Crest resident Vaniesa McQueary was voted in as a new member.

Nine Club members participated in a project at Triangle Grocery in Cedar Crest for the Lions Statewide Food Collection Day Sept. 13. They included Lions Sammie, Sarah Berry, Linda Cuenco, Rena Harris, Joe Hawkins, Tony Mittas, Heather Pink, Bobby Richardson and Steve-O Marusich. Lions Tony and Steve-O then delivered 603 food items, some diapers and dog food, and $292.50 in cash to the East Mountain Food Pantry.

Lions Vaniesa, Joseph Hawkins and Tony Mittas attended a Lions Orientation held September 23 on a very rainy night conducted by PCC Bob Jones at his home in Tijeras. Lion Vaniesa also helped PCC Bob and Lion Gerry Jones as 52 student dictionaries were distributed to two classes at San Antonito Elementary School in Cedar Crest on September 30 as part of the Club's Dictionaries for Third Graders Project.

A YARD SALE will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, in Richland Meadows off Meadow Drive in Tijeras to raise funds for Club service projects. An upright piano will be included among the household goods available.
